Welcome to Kindergarten Otters and Kindergarten Puffins!
Your child will move into Kindergarten in the term following their third birthday, this is when your child is eligible for Early Years Education Funding.
Our Kindergarten Unit is purpose-designed for this age-group, accommodating sixteen children in each room. The bright, sunny rooms are set out to allow movement between Puffins and Otters, and to provide activities covering all areas of learning, adult-led and continuous provision of free-play, quiet and creative areas.
The Kindergarten participates in Pre-Prep activities, wherever possible, in preparation for School later on. The children join the Pre-Prep. for outdoor playtimes, assemblies, mealtimes and other traditions such as St. Michael's Day, Harvest Festival and Sports Day.
The children in Kindergarten wear the School Uniform, available from the School Shop on-site, or the Nursery Sweatshirt.
The children have PE with the Head of Games, following the 'Leap in Faith' scheme, covering all areas of physical development. In the summer, the older children in Kindergarten have an opportunity to develop their water confidence in our outdoor heated swimming pool.
The children also have opportunities to enjoy Forest School in our woodlands. Here children enjoy activities such as creating habitats for creatures, measuring themselves with logs, using tools and even toasting marshmallows around the campfire!
Our Kindergarten focuses on the Principles and Themes of the Early Years Foundation Stage and spans the age of three to five years old, beginning in Nursery and completing at the end of Reception. At St. Michael's, children join Reception in the September following their fourth birthday.
